Commentary

Somerset are through to the semifinals, where they would be taking on Surrey. Northamptonshire would look back on the season fondly. They played some good cricket throughout and gave the fans plenty to cheer for. Even today, despite being marred by injuries, they gave the defending champions a run for their money. Alas, in the end, it was not enough. We hope you enjoyed the coverage. It is time for Darpan Tikiya and Pragadeesh to sign off.

Tom Banton [Player of the Match]: (On reaching the finals day) When we started the campaign, it was one of our goals. Four finals and it's a magnificent achievement . I worked on a small technical stuff. I love winning games for Somerset. There was a noise around the wicket. There was seam movement and Willey bowled well and we tried to minimise damage in the powerplay. We looked after the matchups and it worked in our favour. When Willey is on the crease, the match isn't over. (On facing Surrey) On paper, they are the best team in the country but when we play our best cricket, we are hard to beat. The defending champions have made it to the semifinals! It is a victory that was set up by their batters. Two Toms - Banton and Kohler-Cadmore - notched up zestful half-centuries to help them put up an imposing total on the board. Though, Northamptonshire were not going to give up without a fight. After all, a capacity crowd had gathered at their home ground to spur them on.

The start was sedate. But soon, the complexion of the innings changed. It was skipper Willey who led the charge with a fighting half-century. Effervescent cameos from Vasconcelos and Broad kept them in the hunt. But with a steep ask, every over that was slightly under-par made it worse for them. Lewis Gregory bowled a spell of finesse, deploying hard lengths and deceptive slower balls to bag 3 wickets and peg Northamptonshire back.

It even started raining midway, but Somerset fielders never complained. They carried on doing their jobs and let the umpires do theirs. In the end, they win with a comfortable margin.
