England won by an innings and 76 runs
Right then, the bandwagon now moves to the south of London, to the Kia Oval specifically where the 4th Test of the series will be played. Lot of positives for England then, they'll feel like they've checked off a lot of boxes with that victory.
The biggest one of those would be their top order. Their openers got runs and so did their new no.3, Dawid Malan. It was an issue that had plagued them for a long time now and they'll take a lot of confidence from the fact that their top order is scoring runs again. Joe Root, who seems to be riding a real purple-patch, continued to pile the runs up too. Jimmy Andeson, even at 39 years-old, looked like he was at his very best and Ollie Robinson bowled beautifully alongside the veteran. They'll go back to London with heaps of confidence and an intent to take a lead in this series.
India, on the contrary, have lots to think about. A concern that's fast becoming more and more worrisome is their star-studded yet misfiring middle order. The silver lining though is that both Pujara and Kohli scored half-centuries in that second innings but the real concern there is Ajinkya Rahane. India might just have run out of their patience for Rahane so don't be surprised if he's dropped for the next game. India might want to rethink their strategy of going in with four pacers as well. The form of Ishant Sharma was quite concerning as well and with the pitch at the Oval expected to aid the spinners, India might look to finally bring Ravichandran Ashwin back into the mix.
So then, the team that wins the next game cannot lose the series. So its safe to say that its an important game in the context of the series. Will India bounce back strong or will England continue to dominate with their newfound form? Only time will tell! Ollie Robinson (Player of the Match): Very special feeling, dreamed about this as a kid. I knew from being here before that I'd enjoy bowling here. To bowl with Jimmy is an absolute honour. Been learning a lot of things from him. Nice to get Kohli out, same plan for him to bowl around 4-5th stump. I feel fine, was nice to have a break last week. Looking forward to the next game.
Joe Root (Captain, England): It was a fantastic and clinical performance from our bowlers. They made use of that new ball and built pressure early on. We knew that we were capable of bouncing back. The pleasing thing was that we were clinical with the ball in both innings and the openers got runs for us and set us up with the bat. Wickets we got today was down to the hard-work done by the bowlers last evening. He's too good (Anderson), that's why he's the GOAT of Test cricket. Thought Malan played beautifully. He looked very fluent and his international experience came to the fore. As a batter its your job to score runs whenever you walk out to bat. There have been occasions when I've missed out and somebody else has scored runs. Has been a while since I scored runs at my home ground. I was in great rhythm early on. Brilliant performance from Ollie Robinson. Sam Curran is a very special player, he might not have been at his best in this series but he's someone who has impact with both bat and ball. Not worried about him, he's only going to get better. I think we'll find out about Jos Buttler's availability in a couple of days. Played a lot of cricket here as a kid, every time I come here I get a wonderful reception.
Virat Kohli (Captain, India): Basically down to scoreboard pressure. We knew we would be up against it when we got bowled out for less than 80 in the first innings. But I think we did really well to stay in it, we got a few good partnerships and managed to hang on. But credit to England, their bowlers got to us today and we just couldn't show resistance. Collapses like these happen in England, comes down to bat decisions from our batsmen and good bowling from the opposition. I don't regret my decision at the toss. Pitch looked really good to bat on, you could see that when England batted. Our bowlers were probably not consistent enough. We were just not on the money in this game and England were. You expect them to bounce back. You can argue that we don't have depth in our side. The top order has to give enough runs for the lower middle order to step up. We can take a lot of positives from the second innings. We bounced back really well even after that innings when we got bowled out for 36. Depends on the pitch at the Oval, our decision for the team depends on that. I think this template of having four seamers works well for us. Very confident that our team can bounce back in the next game, we've done it in the past. We'll take a lot of pride in trying to correct the errors we made in this game.
What a clinical performance this has been from England! It took them just one session today to wrap this game up! The series is level now at 1 each! After being beaten at Lord's in the previous game, they've come back strong to win this one in a convincing manner.
It all started off with that magical spell from Anderson on the first morning. He set the game up by picking up 3 for 6 in his 8 over spell and it sent India's batting order into a tail-spin. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, India would have never expected to be bowled out for 78 but as it turned out in the end, it was all they could muster in their first innings.
England, having claimed the ascendency very early in the game, continued to press on the advantage. In what was a refreshing change, their openers shared a century stand - the first century opening stand for England since 2016. The star of the show, however, was once again England's captain Joe Root who struck his way to another scintillating century.
Contributions from the rest of the top order as well meant that England claimed a massive 354-run lead after they were eventually bowled out for 432 on the third day. India, having just come off a dismal batting show, needed to turn things around pretty quickly if they were to have a chance of staying alive in this game.
India's openers started off positively but they were dealt an early blow after KL Rahul was dismissed cheaply. However, Cheteshwar Pujara, who'd been desperately short of runs, walked out with intent and looked like his former self. He was offered a few freebies to get underway and he made the most out of it. Rohit Sharma too, who'd batted with a lot of grit, eventually fell for a well 59.
It felt like there was a glimmer of hope for India in this game as they batted out the final session of Day-3 without losing a wicket. Virat Kohli, who'd looked like a shadow of himself all series long, managed to get some runs too and got settled at the crease. India were 215/2 at the end of Day-3 and were looking well set at hunting England's total down.
But come Day-4 and the narrative changed very quickly indeed. On a bright sunny morning with a flat deck to bat on and two set batsmen at the crease, everyone expected India to pile up a mountain of runs. However, what transpired was the exact opposite. England managed to get rid of Pujara before India could get a run on Day-4 and Virat Kohli too fell soon thereafter.
With jitters all around, India desperately hoped that an out-of-form Ajinkya Rahane could finally create some impact, but it wasn't to be and hope was lost very quickly indeed as both Rahane and Pant fell in quick succession. Ollie Robinson was the standout with the ball in hand as he claimed his 2nd five-wicket haul of the series. England made quick work of India's tail and ended up scalping 8 Indian wickets inside the first session play.
99.3 Craig Overton to Mohammed Siraj, EDGED AND THAT WILL BE THAT! 1-1! Back of a length delivery on middle and off stump. Siraj, much like several batters, pokes at it without any conviction and sees the ball take a thick outside edge before nestling into Bairstow's palms at second slip! What a win this is for England and what a comeback this has been today!

India still trail by 76 runs here, the question in every Indian fan's mind at the moment will be 'How long can Jadeja bat?'.
