It's a big ground, knew there'll be big gaps and whenever I wanted to clear the boundary ropes, I did. Wanted to bat as long as possible tonight. The talk with Rahul was simple, keep rotating the strikes and we knew we could make up later on, if there's to hit, we wanted to hit them."

Rishabh Pant [Lucknow Super Giants captain]: "We were like 20 runs short, in Lucknow, toss plays a huge part and whoever is bowling first, they get a lot of help and we just had to stay in the game for longer period of times, but we just couldn't get away. It always happens here in second innings, it gets better to bat on. It happens in cricket, as a team we're not looking for excuses. One idea is, why we're having Ayush as impact player. Just trying to fit Mayank in till he's ready as he's just came from NCA. Idea was to capitalize on wicket like that, after that Miller came in and we were stuck too, we need to figure these things, try to find best combination going forward. We haven't thought about as of now, we need to regroup, just got to play the next game fresh."

With this one-sided victory, Delhi Capitals make it 2-0 against Lucknow Super Giants this season. While their win at Vizag earlier this year felt like a heist, they were in the driver's seat tonight for the large part.

LSG's start was sturdy. While openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram did not really run away with the rate of scoring, they ensured that Delhi had to work hard to draw first blood. Given that captain Pant had talked about the importance of preserving wickets on this pitch, the start was ideal. However, they seemed to have lost their way post the end of the powerplay.

Yes, the pitch was on the sluggish side. Yes, the DC bowlers bowled well too. However, Lucknow's batting through the middle was not anything to ride home about. Marsh, who was at the crease till the 12th over, could only find the boundary once post the end of the field restriction phase. David Miller, known for his hard-hitting abilities, could only score one four in the fifteen balls he faced. The other talking points were Nicholas Pooran getting out early and Rishabh Pant not coming out to bat until the team was 5-down. Markram's solid innings of 52 and Badoni's cameo that helped propel them past 150 were the only bright specs.

The Capitals were never put under any serious pressure during the run-chase. Abishek Porel and Karun Nair gave an effervescent start. While the latter was dismissed in the fourth over, the southpaw went on to score his maiden IPL fifty. Then, KL Rahul came to the crease and played an innings tailor-made for this wicket. Circumspect with his approach, effective against anything loose and yet got Delhi over the line with plenty of time to spare. During this, he also became the fastest to complete 5,000 IPL runs.
