Ross Taylor (Southern Super Stars' captain): It was nice to get off the mark. It has been a slow tournament for us so far. At the halfway stage, we knew it was going to be quite challenging. We hung in there and managed to pull the win off. It is a quick turnaround. We play another game in two days' time and will have to go at it. We will go away, have some rest and then come back to analyse for our next game.

Harbhajan Singh (Manipal Tigers captain): I think, we were about 10 runs short. I think whatever runs we got on the board we fought hard. In the end Negi batted brilliantly to win it for them. We will try and come back strongly and better our performances in the next few matches. I am not someone to go and tell them how to play. They must have spoken between each other on the pitch. They could have tried to take the singles and doubles. 140 could have been a massive score but it happens and we will try to come back strongly

Pawan Negi (Player of the Match): I was trying hard and the belief was there. We thought that if we can get a big over which happened in the second last, we thought we could chase this down. Wicket was very tough against the spinners. When the medium pacers bowled in the last two overs, we thought we could get this done. The plan was to hit the pitch. In batting, I had to play the big shots. The execution was there today and I am extremely happy with the contribution. The win has come a bit late but we will now try to win the next two matches.

This was a game that saw several twists and turns before coming to an end. In many ways, it proved fitting for a tournament that boasts of showcasing legends of the game to general public, sometimes years after their respective retirements.

In many ways, it was also a big treat for the people of Jammu, where the tournament is going to stay for a week. The Southern Super Stars seemed to be the favourites to win this game given how lowly they had bowled the Manipal Tigers out for earlier in this game.

However, the Tigers' skipper Harbhajan Singh introduced him (and spin in general pretty early on in this game) and reaped the rewards for it. This surface turned out to be a rather sluggish one where seamers struggled to come to terms with the batters.

The spinners, however, did extremely well. It was eventually, up to Pawan Negi and Shreevats Goswami to seal the deal for their side and that is what they did quite comfortably. Negi was the one who hit the winning shot although Goswami had played a big role in the build-up to it.

The rest of the batters of the Super Stars did well enough but nobody could take the initiative to win the game for their side. The Tigers tried their best to win this game but unfortunately, they could not quite pull things off. This win gets the Super Stars underway in this tournament, and skipper Ross Taylor will be extremely pleased with the result!

AND NEGI DOES IT FOR THE SUPER STARS! That was a terrific strike!

19.4 Thisara Perera to Pawan Negi, SIX! Negi finishes it off in style. What a dramatic end to this nail-biting thriller. Harbhajan might just have missed a trick by not bowling a spinner when the pitch was turning square. Right in the slot around the middle stump, Negi gets down on one knee and nails the slog sweep, clears the deep midwicket fence comfortably and the Southern Super Stars have registered their first victory of the competition.

JUST SIX RUNS NEEDED NOW!

Another wide yorker, and Perera gets punished for a boundary, despite it coming off the outside edge!

19.3 Thisara Perera to Pawan Negi, FOUR! Pawan Negi is playing a blinder here, again an attempted wide yorker outside off, Negi flays at that, played with an angled bat and he did get the outside edge but it was a bit intentional. Races away past the short third man fielder for a boundary.

Negi is playing an absolute blinder here! He needs to be around to take his team home.

19.2 Thisara Perera to Pawan Negi, FOUR! That was a pace on good-length delivery outside off, Negi throws his hands at that and the outside edge flies away past the keeper and the short third man fielder and it races away to the fence. 10 required off 4 balls.

19.1 Thisara Perera to Pawan Negi, that was a slowish fuller-length delivery a tad outside off, Negi gets down on one knee and goes for the slog sweep over midwicket, gets an inside edge towards the backward square leg region and scampers back for a couple.

Goswami looked extremely dangerous in this over, but the searching yorker from Awana off the last ball has adjusted the balance sheet somewhat.

He might have well gone for the ramp shot again. He might not have been excepting another full delivery.
